NRHM multi-crore scam: 5 accused CMOs transferred, favours police to close investigation; Director likely to be transferred soon

AGARTALA, June 18 (TIWN): With the department displeased over the role of police on National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) multi-crore scam at Kailasahar under Unakoti District investigation, the supporters of the accused CMOs and other medical officers are on a spree pressurizing police to close the chapter and rescue the accused officials from the multi-crore scam. On being asked why the accused CMOs have not yet been arrested, the highly placed source of state health department said, “The case is entirely under the vigilance of High Court and the department has already handed over the case with the police.” However the official source expressing displeasure over the role of police quoted, “If the police manage to release the accused persons after investigation then it is their problem. We have done from our part by framing the audit report and filing case against 17 medical officers for their involvement in NHM multi-crore scam. ”Interestingly, during the interaction with the official source, it has been learnt that at least five accused officials has already been issued with a transfer order. The source also added that the Kailasahar NRHM Director Dr. Sandeep Mahatme is also likely to be transferred soon, which some way or other help the police investigation to droop and free police from the case. Talking to TIWN on Thursday Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nabadwip Jamatia said that the investigation is under progress.But interestingly the police so far have failed to arrest the accused medical officers.The source also added that the Kailasahar NRHM Director Dr. Sandeep Mahatme is also likely to be transferred soon to help the corrupt officials.

The source refusing to comment on the role of police said that the High court is monitoring the entire case now.

After getting salvos from the High Court of Tripura (HC) recently, the probe into the multi-crore scam at national flagship programme - NRHM has come to a halt. 

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Unakoti District - Dr. Alok Dewan, accused of misappropriating allocated fund under NRHM outlay has managed to comfort in his office.

With another major setback to the investigation of the National Rural Health Mission (NHM) scam unearthed at Unakoti District of Tripura the FIR named corrupt Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) and other officers has got an easy way to escape from the entire allegations against them.

What makes the growth story more interesting is that the transfer order of at least 5 accused CMOs and the transfer of Mahatme would of course lead the entire investigation process bring zero output to the NHM multi-crore scam. According to the sources the close aide of the accused CMOs has been trying hard enough to sway the police investigation against them. Besides it has also been reported that a day has also passed by when some close aide of the accused CMOs tried to attack Kailasahar NHM director Sandeep Mahatme and has threatened him as he lodged case against the CMOs.

Besides, with the negligence role of the police had of course come under the limelight. Despite lodging FIR by the state Health Department against the 17 CMOs and other officials Police applying their own made strategy has been delaying to arrest the culprits. Also it has been learnt that Police in the name of verifying provided documents related to the case is unexpectedly remained backtrack from bringing further development to the scam.

NRHM director Dr. Sandeep Mahatme registered complaints against 17 medical officers including Dr. Alok Dewan at the same police station. During the course of departmental inquiry it was revealed that Rs 4.47 crore had been allegedly siphoned off from 2006 to 2014 by five CMOs and ten medical officer in-charge (MOICs) in the undivided North district.

All the CMOs and MOICs had been asked to submit papers showing utilization of fund but they could not produce till the date prompting Mahatme to lodge FIR against 17 persons.
