PM Modi's 2 days Bangladesh visit brings economic hopes for North East : LBA agreement resolves disputed Muhuri Char issue

AGARTALA, June 8 (TIWN): Prime minister Narendra Modi’s two days’ Bangladesh visit has given new dimensions to the existing friendly relation with the neighbor country feel the political analysts here. With an aim to develop the north east sector of the country, the prime minister felt it necessary to develop the relations with the neighbouring countries of the north eastern states of the country. Ever since he took the charge of prime minister ship of the country, the prime minister was very clear in his approach in improving the relations with the bordering countries of the north eastern region.The prime minister visited Nepal, China, Bangladesh to usher in the path of friendly relations of these countries which have common border with the north-eastern states of the country. The recent visit of the Indian Prime Minister to neighbouring Bangladesh was aimed at improving the bilateral relations between the two countries which have long ties.Bangladesh too, considers India as its best friendly country for its help during the country’s liberation from the clutch of Pakistan in 1971.The 41 years old boundary dispute between the two neighbouring countries were solved as the countries agreed to solve the dispute amicably by exchanges of some areas on both sides of the border.The long standing dispute of Tripura’s Muhuri banks in Belonia was also solved giving a shy of much relief to the people of Tripura’s Belonia Town which was under tremendous tension for a long time since 1974 after the border demarcation was done by the then officials of the Govt. of India and the Govt. of Bangladesh.

The two premiers exchanged the instruments of the Land Border Agreement on June 6, 2015 in Dhaka. The much awaited direct bus service between Agartala and Kolkata via Dhaka and Dhaka and Guwahati via Shillong were also flagged off by the two premiers jointly on the same date.

Prime minister Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Shiekh Hasina agreed to make the common border areas of the two countries criminal free and to take all necessary steps in that direction so that an air of fearless situation prevails in the areas.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd (BSCCL) will start exporting bandwidth -- 10 gigabits per second -- to the northeastern Indian state of Tripura by September.

BSCCL will export the bandwidth at $10 per mbps—which is 33 percent higher than its local

The two countries signed 22 pacts, including agreements on coastal shipping, renewal of protocol on inland water transit and trade, on prevention of human trafficking and on prevention of smuggling and circulation of fake currency notes.
