AGARTALA, June 7 (TIWN): Malaria again rapidly extending its feather in the Dhalai district of Tripura. According to the latest report by Dhalai District Data, Manager (IDSP), Subhrasungha Saha, the total number of cases detected in the last month counted to be 403.

Clarifying more about the status of malaria, Mr. Saha reports that the total picture depicted yesterday counts as in Gandacherra-10, Longtarai- 12, Ambassa-5 and in Kamlapur-5. But no case of death has been registered yet, after May 27 this year.

Talking about the preventive measures District Data Manager (IDSP), he said that various health camps, awareness programmes were organised in the district to aware people about the deadly disease.

In addition to that, if any report of epidemic witnessed in any one of the areas, immediately a medical team was sent to the targeted place. This year the case of malaria is at reduced rate as compared to last year- Mr. Saha further added.

However speaking about the overall report from January to May, at least five persons died from malaria in the district while 1,700 positive cases have been identified. Among them two death cases were reported from Gandacherra, one from Kamalpur and two from Longtarai Valley.

With the alarming rise of malaria in the interior places of Tripura, Central had recently sent 4 delegates’ Central team to 3 North East States including to investigate the whole matter and to send report over viewing whole situation. The team had recently visited the Gandacherra area and will visit the other areas in the days to come

In the current year, Malaria had affected Atharamura, Gandacherra and Sabroom along with other remotest areas of Tripura.

Though Govt has been campaigning over the years, so that the health care facilities in the state can easily be compared to any other state in the country but the ground reality is that a majority of the health centers located outside Agartala do not even have moveable transport facilities so that doctors and health staffs can attend to the patients who are suffering from various illnesses.

The recent outbreak of malaria epidemic has once again revealed the hollowness of the state govt's claim about Heath services. Rather, it also showed that the funds allocated by the centre from time to time have not been properly utilized.

After June early this year Malaria has once again started to make its impact in the lives of Tripura especially in the remote tribal areas. During this time more than90 deaths occurred. But even after that horrible experience state govt. as well as the Health department did not take the least care about the observatory reports.
