AGARTALA, June 6 (TIWN): The Tripura Left front government plans to procure at least 100 new buses to go on road in and around the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas with a cost of Rs. 35 crore with an aim to contain the passengers rush in the capital town. During the year 2014, the Union Ministry for Urban Development (UD) sanctioned 100 additional buses for Tripura as part of strengthening its public transport network.
Sanctioned under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) among 100 buses TATA motors will supply 73 buses and remaining 27 buses by SML Company. As per central government guidelines all the buses will be plied by private party.
Talking to TIWN on Thursday state transport official said, “The buses would start arriving here from this month.” He said that the buses would go on road very soon.
Earlier talking to the reporters at the civil secretariat Transport Minister Manik Dey said that the government demanded more 100 buses from the center to contain the heavy rush of the passengers. He said that at present under JNNURM scheme 70 buses are plying across the AMC areas of the state but these are not sufficient to meet the passengers’ rush.
With an aim to meet the rush of passengers here in the capital city Agartala the Tripura High Court during the year 2014 asked the State govt. to introduce 100 new city buses.
However following this to meet the increasing demand of the city passengers the state govt. has recently planned to introduce 100 new buses proposed to ply by the month of June this year.
During the year 2014, the Union Ministry for Urban Development (UD) sanctioned 100 additional buses for Tripura as a part of strengthening its public transport network.
A project of Rs. 35 crores was sanctioned to the state to start 100 buses for the city bus project functional in Agartala city and its suburbs.
