Deplorable unhealthy condition goes common in rural schools

UDAIPUR, June 4 (TIWN): Tall claims made by the ministerial bench authority for providing education to all the children of the state turns bleak with the deplorable condition of the schools in the rural areas.

In a recent report it was found that education for the students of “Uchya Buniyadi Vidyalaya” under Korbuk Sub-division of Dakmura Gomoti bari has become a joke and is done for the name-sake.

Elementary education in Tripura is a major challenge for the government, and many children are still deprived of what is treated as fundamental human rights under Indian law. It comprises 8 years of school starting at age 6, and efforts are ongoing to engage more and more students in the parameter of education, but how far is true in rural areas of the state it is questionable.

Our ministers claim that, schools are supposed to be the temples of learning, but the average primary educational institution in rural Tripura is dingy, dilapidated place without access to electricity, toilets and with too few teachers. True, just having great school infrastructure is not sufficient to improve learning outcomes, but it is certainly a necessary condition. The learning outcomes are abysmal in the schools of Rural Tripura.

The locals alleged that the poor school infrastructure is due to the failure to run intervention programmes and cannot be blamed on a lack of funds within provincial governments.

These conditions include a lack of learning material, proper toilets and libraries, particularly in the Uchya Buniyadi Vidyalaya.

Students alleged that poor indoor air quality triggers an increase in asthma problem among the students, temperature extremes affects student concentration as the roof of the school class rooms were blown away during the storm, and student and staff absenteeism in the school is  due to an unhealthy environment.

During heavy shower the students are used to release from the school without any notice as rain water directly splashes in the class rooms and it becomes merely impossible to take class for the teachers.

Day after day, education for the students in the rural areas is given for the name-sake. Though the issue is being reported to the concerned authority but yet no action has been taken for the development of the school infrastructure.
