AGARTALA, June 4 (TIWN): Illegal intrusion of the extremist, smuggling of contraband items and cattle’s across Tripura to Bangladesh and vice-versa has become an everyday-issue. Despite the wire fencing across the border area Tripura has become the hub for transporting the prohibited goods.Indo-Bangladesh border is allegedly described as a "problem area for tomorrow".

Recently it was found that, terrorists bombings in different places of India have indicated that militants are "freely using" the porous border to enter into India to carry out their heinous acts. The increasing numbers has already made it virtually impossible to stop illegal entry, despite of the security forces deployed in the border area.  Therefore, it is necessary that as much attention be given to the border area in Tripura to avoid illegal intrusion from Bangladesh.

The Indo-Bangladesh border is highly leaky making the illegal movement of people and goods a regular affair. The territory and the demographic composition of the border area make it favorable for Bangladeshis to sneak into India and also to get easily assimilated with the local masses. Along with illegal entries, migration from Bangladesh into India, especially in Tripura has primarily been driven by the mission for better economic opportunities, which is also another way to intrude into the Indian land for hampering the socio-economic movement of the country.  

Over the years, the size of this illegal migration had reached to such an astounding proportion that it had begun to alter the demographic profile and threaten the existence of socio-political people across the border. The porous nature of the border and the constant flow of people have also made it easy for insurgent groups to carry out their atrocious activities, and also have the potential to destabilize the country and threaten national security.

Locals alleged that in a broad day light the smugglers are seen exchanging arms and weapons from the national land to the land of Bangladesh in the border area. However it is mentionable that the smuggling of contraband goods includes the import of Chinese pistol, gun, live cartages, along with other arms and weapons which is openly used along side of the Sonamura and Boxonagar border area, added locals.

It has not become possible to provide fencing in all side of the border. Thus the smuggling of cattle, human trafficking, fake currency, kidnapping and thefts are quite rampant along the border as there is lack of proper security arrangements.

Localities alleged that the Police personal, BSF and concerned authority are playing the role silent viewer, only because their pockets are filled with hefty amount of bribe.
