KHOWAI, June 1 (TIWN): Resentment brewing up among the locals of Khowai Singhichora area when the newly constructed town hall was demolished.
Locals alleged that after spending a huge amount of Rs. 36 lakhs, a town hall was constructed under the initiative of ruling party MLA Samir Deb Sarkar in front of his house at Khowai Singhichora area and allegedly without any concern the building was again demolished and it is a complete wastage of public fund. The locals also said that the hall was all set to be inaugurated.
Reportedly, the inauguration of the town hall was interrupted with the beginning of the construction work of the Cold storage after spending a hefty amount Rs. 3 crore under the initiative of Agriculture department in the same place.
Locals further stated that though with the construction of a cold storage at Khowai Singhichora area, the farmers of Khowai District and Dhalai District will be immensely benefited but the wastage of such a big amount of public fund in the construction of a town hall and then again demolishing it is not acceptable.
Talking to TIWN reporter, PWD Executive Engineer Pankaj Sutradhar stated that it is not a major issue to demolish a building for the construction of another and it is a process of greater development.
However, Khowai Block Congress President Pranab Biswas criticized the wastage of public fund unnecessarily. He further alleged that the ruling party does not care of the public welfare, and they do whatever they like without anyone’s concern.
