BSF takes initiative to familiarize school students about border

BELONIA, May30 (TIWN): 168th Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) deployed at Belonia Sarasima border area under BOP organized a friendly get together on Saturday in the border area with an aim to make the school students of Belonia city familiarize with the functioning of border wire fencing between the countries.

The program was done under the initiative of BSF 168th battalion Commandant Brijesh Kumar.  The program was mainly attended by the student class 6 to class 12 of Belonia Vidyapeeth H.S. School. The teachers of the school have also shown their active participation in the program.

Talking to the student, BSF 168th battalion Commandant Brijesh Kumar stated that India’s border with Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan) has been a locus of contention since 1947. Hastily and haphazardly demarcated, the line dividing Bengal occasioned massive migration and violent dislocation of both Hindus fleeing the newly formed East Pakistan for India and Muslims moving in the opposite direction.

He further said that the border fencing by India is constructed, to prevent smuggling of humans, cattle, drugs and arms, trafficking of human being, illegal intrusion of the extremist and many other reasons. The Indo-Bangladesh border is marked by a high degree of activity by border officials and checking illegal cross border activities has been a alongside of the border.

He further enhanced on the issue that the main problem is of illegal migration from Bangladesh into India. In order to prevent illegal immigration and other anti-national activities from across the border, the Government of India had sanctioned the construction of border roads and fencing in two phases.

All the curriculum activity, including the arrangements of food for the students was sponsored by the BSF 168th battalion.  However, BSF 168th Deputy Commandant D.Chowdhury, Assistant Commandent Robin, along with other officials of the BSF remains present in the program.
