AGARTALA, May 23 (TIWN): Illegal car parking across the capital city has rampant with the traffic police are on a spree undertaking regular checking of two wheelers at every nook and corners of the city. Pedestrians complaint that they face several hurdles strolling in the city especially at Agartala Kamanchowmuhni, Post Office Chowmuhni and other areas.
It is often being seen that the traffics along with the police putting barricade at some of the points of the city sits for checking two wheelers to ensure that the riders carry valid documents. Whereas coming to the market zone of the city area a very opposite can been witnessed where no traffic police are found checking the illegal parking that has rampant especially in front of Big Bazar, Agartala.
People complaints that they often face problem walking through the road or carrying vehicles due to illegal parking at the road side. They also complaint that parking their vehicle at the road side blocks maximum part of the road and as a result other people carrying two wheelers or other vehicles faces problem and has to wait for a long period of time until the jam gets cleared off.
Another section of people alleged that traffic police do remain present at the illegal parking site but only to lodge complaint against private vehicles and its owners whereas it is often being seen that official vehicles comprising of some army vehicles do also park at the road side blocking the roads, but the police takes no action against them, alleged locals at Post Office Chowmuhni and Kaman Chowmuhni.
“Traffic police are often being witnessed harassing the private vehicle owners and the drivers who parks their vehicles illegally at the road side and simply lodges complaint against them with the police station, but what about the officials vehicles? What about the army trucks and vehicles that are being parked at the road side?” questions one shopkeeper.
He also alleged, “I often see that if any traffic police remains present at the road side they simply talks to the officials whose cars are parked illegally and then they move away from the spot, but if the traffic police find any private vehicles they just fine them or harass them in many ways.”
However, the shopkeeper also said that fining illegally parked vehicles is not the matter of concern as it is the duty of the traffic police, but what matter is that they often play a double game talking soft to the officials who also often parks their vehicles illegally at the road side blocking maximum area of the road.
A vehicle causing an obstruction is one which has been parked and left unattended in such a way that it is considered to be a hazard to other road or footway users. However, it is worthy to mention the Traffic department do needs to set up its staffs in the city areas to check illegal parking regularly apart from regular checking of two wheelers at every nook and corners of the city.
Besides, playing double game in checking illegally car parking at the city also needs to be stopped as it has already become a matter of concern for the common people of the state.
