MGNREGA Multicrore scam: Police likely to arrest other accused persons soon; Overall investigation moves in snail's pace

AGARTALA, May 12 (TIWN): In the multi-crore MGNREGA scam under Bishalgarh RD Block Gouranga Paul who was arrested on Saturday for his involvement in the MGNREGA scam was produced before the Additional District and Sessions Court here on Monday.The Additional District and Sessions Court sent accused to 14 days of Judicial Custody (JC). According to police sources, during interrogation Gouranga Paul revealed several vital information regarding the MGNREGA scam. “This will help Police to arrest the other accused persons engaged in the MGNREGA scam”, said police sources. Out of the 12 FIR named accused persons into the massive multi-crore MGNREGA scam under Bishalgarh RD Block eight accused persons were produced before the court on May 7. The Additional District and Sessions Court sent all the eight accused persons in 14 days Judicial Custody (JC). On the other hand two accused persons Mita Malakar (Jr. Engineer) and Debprasad Nandi (Gram Rojgar Sevak) are still at large. The eight accused persons are Chayan Nandi (Technical Assistant), Kishore Banik (Technical Assistant), Nibash Pal (Jr. Mechanical Engineer), Partha Sarkar (Jr. Mechanical Engineer), Goutam Pal (Junior Technician), Shayamal Debbarma (GRS), Sarada Debbarma (GRS) and Subir Ukil (Work Assistant).

On the other hand, the prime accused of multi-crore Bishalghar scam Bimal Chakraborty, who had surrendered before the court on October 23, last year, was granted bail by the Additional District and Sessions Court on Monday last. A section of legal experts said that the Public Prosecutor, who moved the case in favour of the government, could not present the necessary evidences before the court perfectly and the Investigation Officer (IO) of this case allegedly failed to submit the complete charge-sheet even after the statutory period of 180 days since his arrest.

If police fails to submit to the charge sheet to court within six months the eight FIR named accused persons are likely to get bail.

It is to be mentioned here that after the Rs. 50 crore MGNREGA multi­crore scam of Bishalgarh RD Block came to light all the 94 corrupt officials of Bishalgarh RD Block are not coming to office due to which all the remaining work of Bishalgarh RD Block came to an halt. And the local people of the Bishalgarh RD Block are suffering from various problems due to the said reason.
