AGARTALA, May 10 (TIWN): When the troops of Border Security Force (BSF) are incessantly trying to curb the smuggling of various contraband items including phensedyl at Panisagar area, a strong racket of smugglers is giving threat to BSF for not to carry out such raids.
Reportedly, the state has gradually shaped itself into the safest corridor in India’s Northeast for passage of contraband drugs into the adjoining territory of Bangladesh. The police, administration and BSF are doing their best to stop smuggling of these contraband items. But they are unable stop the smuggling of contraband items as the smuggler gangs are hand in glove with ruling party and corrupt government officials, said a highly placed police source.
According to BSF sources, the agencies, which strive hard to stop these illegal activities, are on the hit list of the smugglers. The smugglers are now-a-days using all sorts of illegal means to instate fear and demoralize the persons working in these government agencies. The fear psychosis of getting dismissed from job with false allegations planted by those smugglers is so high in the mind of the government agencies that it is probing a great hindrance for them to work for anti-smuggling activities.
Large parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar are emerging as drug consuming zones, and bordering areas of Tripura are contributing to the fastemerging drugs market. Smugglers based in Tripura are sending these contraband items to Bangladesh virtually by the truckload, hundreds of acres of remote land in West Tripura have become sprawling ganja plantations, the source informed.
According to a source, consumption of alcohol is banned in Muslim majority Bangladesh and thus the demand of alternative means like codines is on the rise in the neighbouring country. Numerous smugglers of both sides of border are engaged in illegal trade of Phensedyl as it gives them huge income.
