Tripura Teachers’ Recruitment Board opened, Tripura tops in literacy rate, says Edu. Minister

AGARTALA, May 9 (TIWN): Adopting the 44 years old policy by the 22 years stint in power, the Left front govt. in Tripura giving a green signal to the National Council of Teachers' Education (NCTE) guidelines for recruitment of primary and upper-primary teacher with the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) made mandatory has opened its newly constituted Teachers’ Recruitment Board (TRB) at State Counsil of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) office, Kunjaban.

School education minister Tapan Chakroborty inaugurating the TRB at SCERT office at Kunjaban recently said, “There would be no more compromise with recruiting teachers based on their quality needed to teach students in schools.”

Stressing on quality education in schools across the state Chakroborty said, “Before it was not possible for the state govt. here to adopt quality education for the state but during the ‘Jono Shikha Andolon’ the infrastructure of the school education was adopted.”

Minister said, “With this the state Tripura now stands top in literacy rate at the entire nation.” Adding he said that state govt. has been eyeing forward no to explore quality education recruiting quality teachers through Teachers’ Recruitment Board, which has been constituted by the state govt. after a long pause.

Minister further added that at present there are a total of 6000 vacancies under teachers’ posts. Chakraborty said the state government has targeted to improve the quality of service in the public sector and also to ensure a trans-parent system of appointment.

However, to put a transparent process in course of candidate selection to make appointment at different levels of School Education department including Teacher Eligibility Test, the state government has decided to constitute a 5-member professional body as Teachers’ Recruitment Board.

Currently the board is being chaired by Anup Kumar Dutta comprising of member secretary and three members respectively.

The main functions of the Board will be; maintaining records of the selection made by the Board by computerization and networking of recruitment activities to ensure transparency and accuracy, preparation of guidelines on the matter relating to the methods of selection of teachers as per requirement and selection of candidates and recommendation of names of selected candidates to the concerned authorities for appointment as Under Graduate, Graduate and Post Graduate teachers to the government and Govt. aided other schools including SSA Rajya Mission, RMSA/TTAADC.
