1st session of the newly formed TTAADC to commence from May 18

AGARTALA, May 10 (TIWN): The first session of the newly formed Tripura Tribal Area Autonomus District Council will be commenced on May18. On the other hand, the newly elected members of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will take oath of office on May 17. ,

According to CPI-M party sources, Ranjit Debbarma will be elected as chief executive member (CEM) of the eight TTAADC. However, it is also learnt that the current executive member and in charge of the education department Radhacharan Debbarma likely to be promoted to CEM.

It may be recalled that the general elections of the Tripura ADC were held on May 3 for 28 seats of the district council. In all the polling percentage were 84.21 which is a little more when compared to 83.62 poll percent in the 2010 ADC election. All the 25 candidates of CPI –M who took part in elections emerged victorious, while the other three seats were shared by the left allies namely RSP, CPI and Forward Block

Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Act 1979 was passed by the Indian parliament after a series of democratic movements launched by the Indigenous people of Tripura. The principle objective behind setting up the Autonomous District Council is to empower the Indigenous people to govern themselves and also to bring all round developments of the backward people so as to protect and preserve their culture, customs and traditions.
