HC hears State Govt.’s petition for cancellation of scamster Bimal’s bail on MGNREGA multi-crore scam : HC issues show-cause notice to Bimal

AGARTALA, May 9 (TIWN): On a first day hearing of the State Govt.’s petition to Tripura High Court for cancellation of MGNREGA scamster Bimal Chakraborty’ bail, the Court on Friday issued a show cause notice to scamster Bimal Chakroborty seeking reason for how could his bail petition accepted, said HC Public Prosecutor Abhijeet Ghosh. Talking to TIWN on Friday in this regard PP Abhijeet Ghosh said, “The state govt. has filed a petition with the High Court for the cancellation of the bail of Bimal Chakroborty on Bishalgarh MGNREGA scam on April 20.”Adding to that he said, “The HC would again hear the petition filed by the state govt. on June 2, 2015.It is worthy to mention here that scamster BDO Bimal Chakroborty on April 20, 2015 was granted conditional bail by Bishalgarh Additional Session Court after Police failed to submit the charge sheet within 6 months. ”However later Ghosh told to TIWN, “The HC is likely to announce its final verdict on the petition on the very day on June 2 as mentioned and BDO Bimal Chakraborty might have to go to jail again.”It is to be mentioned here that on September 2014, the incumbent BDO of Bishalgarh Subrata Das lodged FIR against Bimal and 11 others official in the Bishalghar police station. And later on October 23, 2014 allegedly Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s close aide scamster Bimal Chakroborty surrendered before the court.

The court conditioned Bimal for signing a bond of Rs 2 lakh and guarantor of government employee. Besides, he should appear before the investigation officer at regular interval after gap of 15 – days. 

On Oct 20, 2014, the state government following the FIR against Bimal had suspended him from the service. Bimal was a BDO of Bishalgarh RD Block.

The state audit department found misappropriation of Rs 17 Cr amount sanctioned under MGNREGA scheme in seven village Panchayats and audit is not completed in rest 29 Panchayats and 11 Village councils under ADC.

Audit officials however, stated total  misappropriation in the block during Bimal’s tenures has already crossed Rs 44 Cr but audit is not completed in the all the expenditure incurred since 2011-12.

Bimal Chakraborty belongs to a powerful CPI-M family and close to Manik Sarkar. His elder brother Amal Chakraborty is CPI-M youth wing DYFI’s Secretary. Another elder brother Kamal Chakraborty is Commandant of Tripura State Rifles and eldest brother Shyamal Chakraborty is a Chemistry teacher in Calcutta University who is proposed to be Vice Chancellor of newly coming Tripura state university.
