AGARTALA, May 9 (TIWN): After the ruling Left Front in Tripura has won all 28 elected seats in polls to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and grabbed 54.21 percent of all the votes polled white washing its main opposition Congress and unleashing the IPFT and BJP in second position, the opposition Congress Chief Birajit Sinha on Friday confessed ‘Party weakness’ responsible for the setback of the congress in this ADC elections.
Talking to TIWN Sinha indicated, “It is nothing but the weakness in the party itself is responsible for our setback to this ADC poll.”
Adding to that Sinha said, “There are several other reasons but mainly because there were several uproar inside the party itself before I joined as a President to TPCC, we have scored least percentage of votes.”
Sinha said, “I am eyeing forward to strengthen the party from the grassroot level so that we can fight heavy battle with the ruling party here in Tripura.”
However but it is worthy to be mentioned here that TIWN had earlier published a news mentioning that the Congress is likely to face another setback in 2015 ADC poll. The link below: -
However, this emerged as a very worthy opportunity for the riling CPI-M and its Left front govt. and other opposition parties to make an easy sweep in this ADC poll. Though of course, the narrow percentage of votes of the CPI-M this year has triumphant Left Front in Tripura.
Whereas it is mentionable here that since after the Birajit came in power as a new congress chief, the anti-Birajit lobby has been witnessed boycotting him and kept themselves backtrack from support to Sinha unswervingly or circuitously.
According to the political analysis the congress under the leadership of Birajit now seems to have owned the only policy – “Slow and steady always wins the race”.
A section of leaders of the Congress says, building up already strong organization will not help the party now to move forward with its policy to raise voice against corruption and scams here in Tripura.
IPFT has secured the second position in 16 constituencies. This clearly evinces that IPFT has emerged as the main Opposition in TTAADC. On the other hand, BJP has fared well in the North by securing the second position. These are the factors to which the CPI-M is giving a thought.
The IPFT’s relative success in the polls has caused some worry even in the Left Front with CPM’s general secretary for the state Bijan Dhar admitting in a press conference at Agartala that the support the rallying cry has mustered especially among tribal youth might have repercussions in the near future.
The state’s main opposition Congress, meanwhile, polled the least percentage of votes at just 5.49 percent, with the BJP polling only slightly better by polling 7.87 percent of the total votes. Its successes were mainly restricted to areas close to the state’s border with Assam, however.
