NE de-linked from Telecommunication Network : BSNL Internet outage cripples Tripura

AGARTALA, April 24 (TIWN): Disruption of network and internet services has become a common phenomenon with poor services continued for the third consecutive day here in Tripura, due to the entire North Eastern region got de-linked from the national telecommunication network. Besides, the Norwester storm accompanied by the rain storm here at the state has snapped the power services have also caused damage to the internet and other networking services. According to the officials out of 10 gateways of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) connecting from the mainland between Kolkata and Chennai to the North Eastern region, a total of 7 gateways are damaged due to some unwanted technical problems. As a result the entire telecommunication network at the region has been de-linked with the BSNL services. The officials of BSNL pointed towards the weak transmission system connecting from the mainland between Kolkata and Chennai as prime cause of the poor service.

“Disruption of network and internet service has become another phenomenon for the third consecutive day in the areas like Agartala Bordowali, Melarmath and other focused areas of the capital city and even having a cell phone serviced is a big problem for them as the process is clumsy and the server remains down most of the time,” the consumers alleged. 

The BSNL subscribers also said that the internet service is worst hit, which has become the reason for their loss in business. “Internet and mobile services have also put a lot of inconveniences to the people.

Many a times we have informed our higher ups of BSNL regarding the matter, but they have failed to take any measure in this regard,” they added.

However it is worthy to be mentioned here that recently the 7 BSNL gateways between Kolkata and Chennai the mainland connecting to entire North Eastern region has been damaged leaving the rest two in service mode. As a result the subscribers of Tripura are reeling under massive service cut leading the daily work of the businessman and officials hampered. 

The current Internet link in the North-East is the Dharmanagar (Tripura) – Shillong (Meghalaya) – Kolkata (West Bengal) one; that is often affected by natural calamities.

Compared to the National tele-density average of over 76 per cent, the north-eastern States (Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura; apart from Assam) have approximately
