AGARTALA, April 16 (TIWN): In the “Golden Era†of Manik, in yet another shocking revelation of gross irregularities in the state, a 103 year old woman, one of the oldest in the history of the state till date, was found to be deprived to avail her old age pension till date at Kamalapur ADC village.
According to sources, Sushimala Chakma (103), who was learnt to be the oldest person alive in the entire Unakoti district till date, wasn’t given her old age pension. Her only son is currently at his 76 and equally ill and bed-ridden. The duo lives in a small hut at Kamalapur ADC village.
Soutachandra Chakma from ward no. 1 of the Kamalapur ADC village, one of the most senior veterans in the area, applied for his old age pension some 7 years back. The approval couldn’t be accommodated by an apparently bust administration till date.
The eighty year old Soutachandra accused the ruling CPI (M) leaders and said that the latter advised him to join the red camp and get hold of his benefits, failing which there could be no hope. Sushimala Chakma and her son said their family supported Congress before the country even got Independence. “We have supported Congress and worked for the party in the British rule. And we worked in days when the state wasn’t a full-fledged state”, she mentioned.
