Agartala, March 27 (TIWN):National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog advisor B.K. Pandey would visit Tripura in mid April next. During his visit, he would review the the implication of 14th Finance Commission for the State and comments on the Sub-Plan circulated by NITI Aayog on future road map and collect a detailed report on plan and schemes.
The only CPI(M) ruled state have been demanding that the NITI Aayog continue with the functions of the erstwhile Planning Commission, particularly the determination of annual plans and transfer of Plan funds to States.
After the scrapping of the Planning Commission, this role is currently being undertaken by the Finance Ministry. Apart from demanding that the NITI Aayog take on this responsibility, the state government called for greater devolution of funds and spoke out against the arbitrary cuts in Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) at the first meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog,.
Chief Minister recently in a letter to Prime Minister Modi expressed concern over “arbitrary cuts” in certain CSS which had resulted in incomplete projects and cost over-runs. He has demanded Rs 17,700 crores from Prime Minister as a one time special grant to tide over the state's financial crisis., a minister said here today. In his letter, mentioned that the state demanded 50 per cent share of the central taxes, but the 14th Finance Commission has fixed it at 42 per cent and added, due to abolition of the Planning Commission the state would face huge paucity of funds in different sectors, Besides the status of special category state for Tripura was withdrawn as a result of which the state would be deprived of many facilities.
