Palatana OTPC Unit-II begins commercial generation of power

UDAIPUR / AGARTALA, March 26 (TIWN): The Unit-II of 726.6 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power plant at Palatana under Gomati District has begun its commercial generation of power. According to the officials, at present the commercial generation of power has accumulated the total generation of power from both the units and reached to 520 MW of power. Meanwhile Power Minister Manik Dey informed that as both the units of Palatana Power Plant has began its commercial generation of power, this would make the state to have power surplus by December, 2015.Earlier in past Power Minister Manik Dey said that Tripura is keen to supply at least 100 MW of electricity to energy-starved Bangladesh as the northeast Indian state will be power surplus by December 2015. "Bangladesh badly needs electricity for domestic, industrial and irrigation purposes. We must cooperate with Bangladesh, because it is our best friendly neighbor," he further mentioned. OTPC's 100 MW power export to Bangladesh will not only generate revenue, but further employment, infrastructure development to strengthen Tripura's economy.However it is also worthy to mention here that during the year 2014 December 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second unit of ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC)

PM Modi appreciated ONGC, OTPC  powered Palatana power project in Udaipur and dedicated it to the nation saying development would be ushered in the Northeast on the basis of a four-point revolution.

At present the generated power is being supplied among the seven sisters of the North Eastern India. In the budget session of the TLA on February 9, it was revealed that certain amount of MW is being shared with the concerned states and they are: Assam (120 MW), Arunachal Pradesh (11), Manipur (21), Meghalaya (39.5), Mizoram (11), Nagaland (13.5), Tripura (98), and OTPC keeps 49 MW.
