Traffic Unit sends 27 proposals to JTC: 27 licenses to be cancelled shortly, says Traffic SP

AGARTALA, March 25 (TIWN): The Tripura Traffic unit has sent a total of 27 proposals to the Joint Transport Commissioner recently for three months of this year. Their licenses to be cancelled very shortly, said Traffic SP Sriti Ranjan Das while talking to TIWN on Tuesday. Adding to that he said that all the 27 proposals include two wheelers and other light vehicles. He said all they were detained during the routine checkup of the traffic department.

SP Traffic said that the routine checkup of the traffic department is yielding good results till today with several riders of the two wheelers getting detained everyday with no helmet, proper license and documents. Besides the three wheelers are also found to have avoided rules and regulations and they are getting detained now by the traffic police deployed across the state capital city Agartala. However he said that during these three months of the year 2015, a total of 27 proposals have already been sent to the Joint Transport commissioner (JTC) to take an action against them with their license to be cancelled very soon.

Though, recently it has been witnessed that a section of auto drivers here in Agartala has been keeping their trend to harass the passengers in regard of the auto fares, beside a section of drivers has been found to be violating the rules and regulations of the transport department and the order of High Court.

Asked about the status of the daily routine checkup of the traffic police, Traffic SP Sriti Ranjan Das said that their main motive is to ensure security to the drivers and the common mass of the state, and as part of the routine check up the traffic has been deployed on every nook and corners of the capital city to ensure proper documents of the vehicles, comprising of heavy vehicles, two wheelers and others. Das mentioned that a section of people are fully unsatisfied with such kind of routine check-up

However, another official of the traffic department confessed that a section of auto drivers here in the capital city has been found violating the rules and regulation of the transport department and the High Court. He said that the traffic police are conducting a check up of the three wheelers as part of the daily routine check up to ensure fare chart in the auto rickshaws. Talking to TIWN earlier, the official also confessed that another section of unruly auto drivers has also been found carrying more than three passengers and it prevails here in Agartala, official said.

However it may be mentioned here that during the year 2014, Transport Minister Manik Dey said that the Transport department will take stern action if drivers do not follow fare rules set by the Transport department and High Court of Tripura. Beside, the department also imposed a restriction on the three wheelers for not carrying more than three passengers, with the Tripura High Court recently ordered the auto drivers to fix a rate chart in their vehicles.
