AGARTALA, March 23 (TIWN): The Tripura High Court today celebrates its second anniversary. The long awaited separate High Court of Tripura was inaugurated on Mar 26, 2013 by Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Supreme Court Justice Aftab Alam and Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court Adarsh Kumar Goel. The High Court of Tripura was established in Mar 2013, after making suitable amendments in the Constitution of India and North Eastern Areas (Reorganization) Act, 1971. Earlier, a bench of the Guwahati High Court used to have jurisdiction over the state of Tripura. Justice Deepak Gupta, who hails from Himachal Pradesh was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura, with effect from March 23, 2013 and by other notifications, the other Judges Justice Utpalendu Bikash Saha, Swapan Chandra Das and Subhashish Talapatra as judges, who were formally the judges of the Guwahati High Court became the Judges of the High Court of Tripura from Mar 23, 2013 in their respective capacities. On Mar 23, 2013 the Chief Justice and other Judges of the High Court of Tripura have been administered the oath of the office by his Excellency, the then Governor of Tripura, Dr. D.Y. Patil at Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhawan in presence of the high dignitaries. Chief Justice Deepak Gupta later on administered the oath of office and secrecy to new governor Devanand Konwar. The relentless journey for dispensing justice by the High Court of Tripura has commenced thus, from the momentous day of Mar 23, 2013.

However, moving to a flash back it would be worthy enough to state here that since after the establishment of the Tripura High Court after a major struggle by the state govt. the people of the state has been benefited at large by the working procedure of the High Court. Besides, it also brought a major embarrassment for the state govt. here with certain issues that went against the state govt. and one of the burning issues amongst them where the High Court of Tripura issued a notice to the state govt. In an embarrassment to the Left Front Government in Tripura on corruption issue, High Court of Tripura during the year 2014 issued notice to the State Government asking it to explain its stand that CBI probe is not necessary to unearth the multi-crore scam at Bishalgarh Bock. A division bench of the High Court comprising of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhashish Talapatra heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking CBI probe into the multi-crore scam.

And on yet another embarrassment for the state govt. that comes on during the year 2014, the High Court terminated services of 10,323 school teachers recruited by the state government and asked it to arrange fresh recruitment process by December 2014. A division bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Swapan Chandra Das passed the order on a batch of 58 petitions filed by those who had failed to secure the jobs. The court also heard the views of the state government and the complainants before passing the judgment.

However, with all this the Tripura High Court had of course brought an easy path for the common mass of the state to lodge any complaint and that too with an easier process. And it is mentionable here that the people of the state is no more in a long yawning siesta when they keeps on lodging complaint with the HC against any unlawful activities by the state govt. or other.
