Agartala, March 23 (TIWN) According to central intelligence report, the outlawed militant organization has planned to ambush at least three to five places at Khowai district ahead of tribal council election schedule to held on early May next.

After getting intelligence report the security has beefed up in the Khowai district, besides patrolling of police, TSR, BSF and Assam Rifles have been intensified.  The road   Behalabari to Sukiabri and Mohanbari to Subal Singh road is categorized by security agencies as  highly sensitive.

In 1987, TNV militants ambushed a bus and killed seven passengers and seriously injuring 12 others. After that the Khowai -   Agartala road via Hezamara was closed when militancy  was on peak in the state. The road re opened after  decline of militancy.

As tribal council election is nearing by, unrest and sense of insecurity is prevailing in the hilly areas of the state. The  strong  demand of separate state by a tribal based political party ahead of  the election has put ruling CPI(M) government in dock.

It is mentionable here that Khowai was once hot bed of militants when insurgency in the state was on its peak. The area was under the dominance of Ranjit Debbarma, supremo of ATTF now a defunct militant outfit. Ranjit was arrested last year, now lodged in jail.
