KHOWAI, March 21 (TIWN):Rega workers of Padmabil Rasarajnagar ADC village under Khowai on Saturday showed protest in demand of the payment of their pending wage. However, OC of Baijalbari Police station, Binod Bihari Debbarma along with police forces rushed to the spot and tried to calm the workers. But this paved no result at all.
Sources informed that around 400 workers of Rasarajnagar ADC Village are engaged in MGNREGA employement scheme. They had completed the work of 40 days. But during last six month, not a single amount of money had been paid to them. Being fed up of this, today they showed protest in demand of paying their pending wage. As a mark of protest they had locked the Chairman of Khowai Nagar Panchayat, Kalpana Dey in her room. Apart from the OC of Baijailbari Police Station, DDO also tried to tranquil the angry workers.
Meanwhile, Tripura topped all other states in implementation of MGNREGA providing 72 days of work per household in the outgoing fiscal year (2014-15) so far against the national average of 31.75 man-days .It is to be mention that MNREGA will allow the households to undertake additional work on their own land the objective of MGNREGA is aimed at enhancing livelihood security of rural households for creating durable assets and discouraging migration. The focus of the scheme is on water conservation, water harvesting, drought proofing, land development, flood control and rural connectivity among others. The scope of the scheme has also been extended from time to time.
