Tripura Women Police ASI Shambika Pal jailed for 3 years on bribe taking charge; Fined Rs. 10, 000
TIWN

AGARTALA, March 19 (TIWN): A court in Tripura on wednesday sentenced Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police to 3 years in prison on charge of taking bribe of Rs. 9, 000. The Session Court Judge SC Das also fined her Rs. 10,000.

Reportedly, during the year 2013, the Kamalasagar Out Post Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Shambika Pal conducted a raid at one Soma Das’ house in the name of secretly keeping cannabis at her house. However, finding no cannabis at her house ASI Shambika Pal  demanded a bribe of Rs. 9, 000 from Soma.  Later the Kamalasagar Out Post OC got to know the fact and informed to SDPO. And following this the SDPO was successful to recover Rs. 9, 000 from ASI Shambika Pal.

Later, the chargesheet was framed against ASI Shambika Pal on charge of taking bribe from innocent women. The Agartala Session Court on wednesday hearing the case send the accused ASI Shambika Pal to 3 years imprisonment and alongwith fined her Rs. 10, 000.

However it may be recalled here that earlier during the year 2013 one Superintendent of police Manik Lal Majumder got 10 years jail for suppressing an investigation and favouring a government official facing forgery charges. Additional Sessions Judge Kripankar Chakraborty pronounced the judgement in a packed court and also fined Manik Lal Majumder Rs. 5,000.

Majummer was found guilty of committing offences under sections 409, 201 and 13 of the Indian Penal Code and set Thursday for verdict. Majumder faced trial for four years for flouting rules to favour Aparna Das, superintendent of the State food and civil supplies department. A case was filed against Majumder in West Agartala police station only after a directive from the court. Majumder was the additional SP in CID during the investigation.

It is to be mentioned here that the awful policy of the state govt. has brought several employees of the state under the banner of crimes. A section of employees of the state govt. now sees no alternative to earn money inspite of committing crimes by some way or other. And with this the Tripura police have once again gained an embarrassment today with the court sending another police officer to jail.
