Tripura Cabinet approves Tripura State Legal Aid Authority rule for the year 2015

AGARTALA, March 18 (TIWN): Tripura Cabinet today approved the Tripura State Legal Aid Authority rule for the year 2015, said Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha, here today.
Speaking to the reporters at Civil Secretariat today Finance minister Bhanulal Saha said that Tripura Cabinet today passed the Tripura State Legal Aid Authority rule for the year 2015. He also added that the ceiling has been also increased to Rs. 1.50 lakh and earlier it was Rs. 1 lakh.Finance minister Bhanulal Saha further added that the Legal Services Institutions are bestowed with power to undertake preventive and strategic Legal Aid Programmes to protect the dignity and basic rights of the weaker and vulnerable sections of society. With a mission to translate the Constitutional mandate of equal justice into action the legal services institutions in the State are sincerely executing the plan of action of the National Legal Services Authority and that of the State Legal Services Authority.It is pertinent to mention here that Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Gupta, Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura as the Patron-in-Chief of Tripura State Legal Services Authority has taken significant steps for advancement of the Legal Services activities in the State.

State Legal Services Authority has constituted a committee of lawyers for visiting the government and privately run old age homes across the State to take care of their legal needs and protection of their rights. Such committee has started visiting the old-age homes and interviewing the inmates of those homes.

Hon’ble the Chief Justice has also taken step to encourage the lawyers to take up the legal aided cases of the poor and downtrodden people. At the intervention of His Lordship, the State Legal Services Authority has raised the rate of honorarium payable to the lawyers in legal aided cases. At the initiative of Hon’ble Mr. Justice U. B. Saha, Judge of the Tripura High Court and Executive Chairman of Tripura State Legal Services Authority, the programs of training of Para-Legal Volunteers, establishment of Legal Aid Clinics in Jails and Village Legal Care and Support Centers have been successfully implemented in the State.
