Teacher Recruitment Case: Unemployed youth ligitants likely to move Supreme Court demanding legal steps against Chief Minister, Education Minister and officials of School Education Department

AGARTALA, March 17 (TIWN): New twist revealed in the teacher recruitment case. The unemployed youth litigants of the High Court will now move to Supreme Court demanding the punishment of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty and the other officials of the School Education Department. This will surely put the State Government in the back drop. In the meantime, hearing on the three leave petitions is scheduled on April 6th. Therefore Supreme Court had ordered the unemployed youths to submit the petition in a written form. But no response had been forwarded by the youths.

On the other hand, the leaders of the ligitants alleged that at first Tripura Pradesh Congress had assured them to bring justice for them and will appoint Abhishek Manu Singhvi as their lawyer. But still no proper steps were being taken. Being tired of this, they now tried to come under the shelter of Bharatiya Janata Party. It also comes to know that recently they met with the BJP leader Nilmani Dev, who had assured them to move their case in the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the Tripura high court directed the state government to submit the merit list of teachers appointed in state government schools in different categories. He HC observed 'serious discrepancies' in the recruitment process of postgraduate, graduate and undergraduate teachers in the state over the last few years. After hearing 49 cases of a similar nature on April 5, the HC rapped the state government for not submitting the merit list of the selected candidates despite a previous order by the court. Following the HC order, the state government had submitted a large number of files, contained in 19 trunks, on April 5 after hearing were completed in the 49 cases. Upon scrutiny, the court found that the most vital documents were missing. The bench expressed its displeasure and asked the state government to clarify why aspirants were given grades instead of marks as this had led to confusion regarding the order of merit.

Tripura is suffering from serious unemployment crisis. However, replying to the question about unemployment allowance. Meanwhile, the latest report of the Employment Exchange, Government of Tripura shows that till January 31st, 658679 persons were unemployed. Among them, number of persons failed in the 8th Standard is recorded as 59494, 8th Standard passed­ 248665, Madhyamik­ 195034, H.S (+2), Graduate­ 47199, Postgraduate­ 9335, Engineer­3026, Doctor­303, Technical­ 2101 and others­ 27199.Among minority classes, the number of unemployed youths in Scheduled Caste category is 107209, Scheduled Tribes­ 152732, OBC­ 49018, Muslim Minority­ 27357 and Handicapped­ 5280. According to the latest National sample survey (NSS Report No­ 554, 68/10/1) in 2011, the ration of unemployed according to the population is 128 per thousand.
