AGARTALA, March 14 (TIWN): West Tripura District administration will conduct mock drill test on March 18th. The drill will start from 11.30 a.m in the morning. It will be conducted on the 7 centres namely Ramthakur Mahavidyalaya, Sipard, Shyamalima Apartment in Agartala, in Jirania sub-divisions and in Mohanpur 2 places were selected for the test. For the successful ending of the programme, a demo was trailed in the Umakanta Mini Stadium.

The mock drill was organized with the objective to see the coordination of different agencies in order to ensure an organized and structural mechanism, and to see the functioning of allied agencies during the disastrous situation. It was also meant to build the capacity of the staff and to assess the preparedness of the concerned agencies and the people. A pledge for disaster preparedness was also administered among the staff, which also got to use some of the disaster fighting equipments and get information on their uses.

All the eight North Eastern states and16 cities come under the seismic zone with a high degree of risk and vulnerability to high intensity earthquakes. Tripura comes under zone five of seismic zone with a high degree of risk and vulnerability to high intensity earthquakes. In order to create awareness among common people about the steps to be taken during an earthquake, this mock drill is also constituted.
