AGARTALA, March 13 (TIWN): Pakistan’s ISI is trying to dismantle the unity among the people of North-East region, said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar after inaugurating the nine-day long programme named ‘Natya Samagama’, festival of contemporary theatre practice, traditions and diverse cultural expressions of India at Nazrul Kalakshetra, here on Thrusday. ''Our misguided youths are being trained as militants inside Bangladesh with the help of ISI,’’ Sarkar claimed, adding that the ISI has been working against India, especially in the North East long before India liberated Bangladesh from East Pakistan. The main aim of ISI is to bleed India, Sarkar added.Manik Sarkar further said that ISI of Pakistan is aiding terror activities in India by providing shelter, training, patronage and financial assistance to terrorists. ISI is also trying to regroup the insurgent groups of North-East region.Sarkar claimed that the insurgency problem in his state was on the decline, with several NLFT and ATTF cadres eschewing the path of violence.

He, however, said such efforts to unite insurgents groups of the Northeast would not succeed because of inherent differences between various insurgents groups dominated by different ethnic communities in the region and such efforts had failed earlier.

''We have developed a holistic approach to this problem (insurgency). We have provided development in practical term and 50 per cent of the government funds are meant for development,'' he said.

It is to be mentioned here that the state government in rallies and other programmes always try to divert the minds of the people from the present scenario of the state.  It is also to be mentioned here that former SDM of Sonamura Subasish Das was transferred for doing his job honestly by destroying over Rs. 100 crores worth of ganja fields. And the state government appointed Panna Ahmed as the SDM of Sonamura. It was reported that, not only land grabbing Panna Ahmed is also engaged in smuggling of contraband items. Several cases of land grabbing are already registered against SDM Panna Ahmed. But no one is able to take stern action Panna Ahmed due to his close relation with CPL (M), said sources.
