KAILASHAHAR, March 13 (TIWN): A review meeting chaired by Minister for Industries & Commerce (including IT) Tapan Chakraborty regarding implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) was held at Gaurnagar and Chandipur RD Block, here on Thursday.
Tapan Chakraborty further said that in the year 2012-2013 also Tripura had won the first prize in MGNREGA implementation and the Unakoti district had been conferred the best implementing district in the country by generating 92% mandays. But due to in-sufficient f fund only 67% mandays was implemented in Unakoti district in the year 2014-2015.
Targeting the central government for reduction of MGNREGA outlay, Chakraborty said that the BJP government has curtailed amount under MGNREGA in many states including Tripura. Earlier, the state used to get Rs. 1400 crore under the scheme. Now, the amount was reduced to Rs. 640 crore, though the state government is yet to receive a portion of the fund.
Chakraborty criticized both the BJP government and Congress terming them as ‘enemy of the poor people and friends of rich’ and said that Left Front government is the only alternative which people could choose.
