AGARTALA, March 10 (TIWN): Tourism Minister Ratan Bhowmik stresses on resham cultivation saying that inspite of rubber cultivation the farmers needs to be lead for the cultivation of resham here in Tripura. Bhowmik inaugurated the district level handloom fair at Udaipur town hall recently. The fair started from March 9 and will be continuing till March 13.
Addressing the inauguration programme Minister of Tourism highlighted on proper planning for weaving persons as the market is in perfect competition and looking to the involvement of new technology in production system. Bhowmik also laid a stress on the resham cultivation here in Tripura. He urged the farmers of the state to get involved with the cultivation of the resham inspite of the rubber cultivation, because it has a good market. He stressed that state government is trying to encourage and support this industry here in Tripura.
Therefore the efforts have been towards trying to upgrade the handloom equipment through different societies, Bhowmik said.
However it is to be mentioned here that like Dairy and poultry farming, silk farming can also be done as a side business along with agriculture. This business can be started at a very low cost and the available materials that the farmers already have. With the new style of Tuti plantation and silk worm cultivation, this business can be done with very less efforts and on a large scale.
