AGARTALA, March 8 (TIWN): The All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) sadar division today staged a sit-in demonstration at Agartala Paradise Chowmuhni area voicing to ensure security for the women of the state and to sensitize people of the state over the importance equal opportunities for women. However the organization today also raised their voice to pass the bill of 33% reserved seats for the women of the state.
Besides, a large number of students and women marched at a rally organised as part of the International Women's Day celebration across the state along with the entire nation. The rally was intended to sensitise people against child marriage and female infanticide and to highlight the importance of equal opportunities for women, women education and prevention of domestic violence against women.
Supporting women’s collective action for social justice and a violence-free society, various organisations would observe the International Women’s Day today. Each year International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. The first International Women's Day was held in 1911. Thousands of events occur to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. Organisations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women's groups, corporations and the media celebrate the day. Various organisations identify their own International Women's Day theme, specific to their local context and interests. Many charities, NGOs and Governments also adopt a relevant theme or campaign to mark the day.
However, as part of the international women’s day today the AIDWA sadar division staged a sit-in demonstration to ensure enough security for the women of the state.
