AGARTALA, March 8 (TIWN): Tripura Urban Transport Corporation collected a profit of 22 lacks s 60 thousand 959 rupees in the recent years through JUNRM scheme. While, despite State Government’s declaration of running 100 buses, still only 70 buses are running in the city. But the condition of the TRTC buses are in very deplorable condition. In the meantime, up to January 21st, 2015, 293 bus permits were given to the vehicles. It is to be mentioned here that, Tripura was sanctioned a project of Rs. 35 crores to operationalize 100 additional buses for the city bus project functional in Agartala city and its suburbs. The Ministry of Urban Development had sanctioned 1080 buses to 13 cities across seven states of the country under its Jawaharlal Nehru Urban renewal Mission (JNURM) project on January 1, 2014. Without proper maintenance any vehicle will breakdown and for TRTC buses a combination of factors like lack of maintenance for more than one month and bad road conditions resulted in an increase in breakdowns.

While, most of the city buses of TRTC are in deplorable condition with in the span of one year. Also the deplorable condition of city bus stops has exposed the authorities’ utter neglect to public convenience and safety. The central government issued a fund to Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) to buy new city buses to provide more facilities to the daily commuters. 

In order to revamp the collapsed city bus services in Capital City Agartala with existing 11 city buses, 24 new city buses are likely to be launched very soon. At the time when the existing 11 city buses are lying in miserable condition at Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT), Chandrapur, According to the source, the TRTC is paying no attention to repair the existing buses lying in very poor condition, which were purchased few years back with a high price to deliver a quality bus service in capital city. The source further said, of the total 24 city buses, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) would sponsor 10 buses by making a tie up with Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC). As many as 9 buses will be purchased with the assistance of Bank loan while the state government has already sanctioned 5 buses in a recent past
