AGARTALA, March 7 (TIWN): Social Welfare & Social Education department along with NGOs organized a rally today to aware the people about the Dowry Prohibition Act 1961 on the occasion of International Women’s Day, here today.
Speaking in the rally Minister for Social Welfare & Social Education Bijita Nath said that in Tripura every year thousands of house wives’ are brutally tortured and also killed by the family members due to the dowry system. This day is celebrated to sketch glimpse of life of Tripura's hard working women who struggles everyday to earn a livelihood to support her family, the minister added.
International Women’s Day will be celebrated in the state on March 8th along with the whole world. For example, organizations like the UN, Oxfam, and Women for Women, Care International, Plan, World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and more run exciting and powerful campaigns that raise awareness and encourage donations for good causes. The UN has been declaring an annual equality theme for many years.
