Tata Kalibari incident:  Testimony of witnesses begins at Fast Track Court

Agartala, March 4 (TIWN):Testimony of witnesses of Tata Kalibari incident of brutal assault on Soma Majumder begin today. The witnesses gave their statement at additional district and session judge of Fast Track Court, Sanjeev Majumder.

 All  the twenty accused have been booked and charge sheeted under IPC section 143,147,341,342,352,325,395,354,354(B), 120 (B). The witnesses included husband, father, mother, sister of the victim remaining witnesses are locals and police.  As witness police have submitted one CD. If the accused are proved guilty, there are provisions for seven to ten years imprisonment.   

The twenty accused are Dipanakar Majumder, Argha Majumder, Nikhil Majumder, Sujit Majumder, Sushil Majumder, Shilpi Majumder, Ruma Majumder, Khela Majumder, Amitra Majumder, Rana Majumder, Uttam Majumder, Minati Majumder, Subrata Majumder, Bapi Majumder, Arjun Majumder, Partha Majumder, Debarata Majumder, Sumati Majumder and Haradhan Debanth.

It may be recalled here that the victim Soma was tied with a post and tortured inhumanly in front of Tata Kalibari in Chandrapur. After the incident, the victim went to East Agartala Women Police Station where cops refused to lodge her complaint.

Later, she went to East Agartala Police Station where she lodged an FIR against all 20 accusing them of torturing her in public. But, all the accused persons were granted bail after being surrendered before the court. But after pressure from all quarters, police filed a non – bail able section then after all accused landed in jail.
