Central government deprives State for allocating money in RCC Cover Drain Project

Agartala, February 26 (TIWN): Central Government had deprived State on the allocation of the funds for the RCC Cover drain project. Tripura Urban Development Minister informed that Agartala Municipal Corporation had sent a proposal of Rs 200.00 to the Union Ministry. Though Union Ministry had approved for the fund, but still now the Ministry had only disbursed only 20 crore rupees.

Mr. Dey further claims that still now work of 70 crore rupees had been completed. That’s mean the extra 50 crore was sanctioned by Tripura government. Due to this the work which had been estimated, cannot be possible to end within stipulated time. Among other projects stress had been laid to RCC open Drain, Brick open Drain.

Earlier, The CEO of AMC informed that at present new initiatives are being taken up and are planned to be implemented in near future as per the guidelines mentioned in Solid Waste Management (SWM) toolkit given by JnNURM. “AMC is going to set up 250 tons per day capacity solid waste processing plant. Fund is made available by Tripura Government, it will be operational by March 2014.There will be also generation of eco bricks” adds Mr. Ramtheke He said “ Currently city of Agartala does not have an underground sewage collection and sewage treatment system. The untreated sewage finds its way into several drainage channels of the city and eventually finds its way into the rivers.”The official informed that the central pollution control board identified the river stretch along the city of Agartala for the Hawrah River to be one of the grossly polluted stretches in minor river basins in India and has been recommended immediate conservation measures. As a pilot project AMC has taken up Rs 102.21 crore schemes under progress JNNURM for North Zone of AMC to be operational by December 2013. The top brass of AMC said work has already started for construction of RCC covered drain worth of Rs 200 crore under 13 finance commission grants in aid. Covering of the drains shall create space for foot paths and shall ease congestion and traffic on the road.
