Agartala, Feb 25 (TIWN): City commuters suffered immense hassles due to crisis of mass transport in the capital today (Wednesday), due to CPI (M) public rally.During a visit to Radhanagar – Nagerjala- Chandrapur motor stand area, TIWN reporters at 10 am found that office goers are waiting in long queues as they could hardly find any bus, small passenger vehicles plying the roads.
A limited number of rickshaws and CNG – run –auto – rickshaws were plying the streets, but they charged excessive fares. Vehicles on these roads took more than double the usual time it takes to reach destinations on a regular day in moderate traffic congestion, forcing people to walk miles or wait for hours to catch a vehicle.
A large number of public buses were used yesterday to take people from different parts of the city to the rally venue. This created a scarcity of buses, making commuters wait at bus stops for hours.
Meanwhile, long distance bus services have been reportedly been suspended since Tuesday ahead of the planned CPI(M) rally, Additional police forces have been deployed in important city points to avoid any untoward incident
