Tripura will likely to have 200 more megawatt surplus power before Puja, in the current year

Agartala, February 21 (TIWN): Tripura will likely to have 200 more megawatt surplus power before Puja, if everything goes right according to the process. Power Minister Manik Dey had informed this while replying to the calling attention, that out of this 200 more megawatt surplus power, 100 will be invested in neighbouring country, Bangladesh and 100 more will be invested to the main stream through 80 KV oriented high capacity electric line from Assam’s Biswanath Chariali to Agra. However, the process is on its way.

Minister also sort out that State Government had decided to increase the power capacity by transforming Baramura and Rukhia Gas oriented power centre into combined cycle as well as by the up gradation of Dambur Hydel Power Project.  Most probably the work will start in the next financial year. If the commercial power production starts from this power projects, the quantity of power received is as under:

It is to be mentioned that the total power demand in recent days is 260 megawatt. That’s why surplus amount of power can be supplied. In order to sell this outside the State, Palatana- Bongaigao 400 K.V Circuit line construction had been completed. On the other hand, in order to supply power to Bangladesh, 48km long 400KV double circuit line from Suryamaninagar to Bangladesh’s South Comilla had been proposed.

In the meantime, Monarchak Power Project will likely to be inaugurated in the month of September this year. Earlier, in order to meet the demand of power, in the year 2002, 500 megawatt capacity formed Gas Power Project’s foundation stone had been laid. On the basis of the supply of gas, the production capacity of this unit had been reduced to 100 megawatt. To purchase the 101 megawatt power, a treaty is also signed between NEEPCO and State Government in 14.07.2007. Other than that behind NEEPCO, from RamchandraNagar’s Power project through combined cycle, 51 megawatt based two more unit’s construction had been likely to be completed.

However, the power production had been started in the year 1976 from Gomati Hydel Power Project. In order to make India fully dependable, by utilizing the natural resources, Tripura Government had inaugurated the Palatana Power Project.
