Agartala, Feb 18 (TIWN):After clearing the long-pending Trauma Centre project for Tripura, the State Government seems to be on a fast track mode in executing the project. Intially two trauma centers would be opened at GBP hospital and Kulai hospital in Dhalai district.

The  trauma centre not  merely an emergency room, it would be  equipped with a qualified trauma surgeon, a radiologist, a physician, and an anaesthesiologist, apart from being manned 24x7 by trained paramedics. CT scan, MRI and X-ray facilities would be  available 24 hour.

According to guidelines, trauma centers are  should be opened close to national highway, however state government has planned to open at  district and sub division level hospital. The centre will deal exclusively with mishap victims, promising State of the art treatment, imperative in the days of rising road accidents involving vehicles.
According to an unverified estimate, road accidents in the state  jumped by 12 per cent between 2005 and 2013. Incidentally, Government of India has given emphasis to setting up trauma centres under the 12th Plan (2012-2017) to address rising road accidents.
A report prepared by the transport research wing under Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for 2010, says that NH accounted for 30 per cent of total road accidents of which 36 per cent of cases resulted in the death of a victim and State highways accounted for 24.5 per cent of total accidents causing death of 27.3 per cent people in 2010.
