Belonia, Feb 18 (TIWN): International Mother Language Day will be observed at Belonia on February 21st February.To mark this occasion, several programmes were undertaken by Belonia Press Club to observe this day with proper honour and dignity. Every year, in the Belonia Press Club observes this auspicious day. But this year, due to the turmoil in Bangladesh, the possibility would be counted less.
A Drama “ Pratam Parth “ based on Mahabharata by Dhaka Drama Team will be included as a part of this day. A magazine was also published in the occasion by Indo Bangla renowned writers. Every year, thousands of people - including children get together to observe international mother language day with a call to promote multi-cultural and multi-linguistic diversity all over the world with mutual respect and understanding.
The objectives include sensitizing people about the use of mother tongue for the nation's development and also impart proficiency in their respective mother tongues. Celebrating these days help in imparting national togetherness, and promote oneness in the nation. Celebration of an International Mother Language day in schools is predicted to help children grow with the values of their nation and understanding essentials of Indian culture. International Mother Language Day is an observance held annually on 21 February worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. It was first announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999. Its observance was also formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages.
International Mother Language Day has been observed every year since 2000 February to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The date represents the day in 1952 when students from different educational institutions such as Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Dhaka Medical College demonstrating for recognition of their language, Bengali as one of the two national languages of the then Pakistan, were shot and killed by police in Dhaka (near High Court), which is the capital of present-day Bangladesh.
