Agartala, February 17 (TIWN): Huge footfalls make 33rd Agartala Book fair a grand success. Like every year, this year also book lovers went hurry into their own world where exists only books and books. Sources claims that, in the third consecutive day, around 18 lakhs 5 thousand 476 amount were earned by selling books.

Apart from that drawing competition and seminar of childrens were organized. Book sellers from Agartala, Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and Bangladesh participated in the book fair which had around 130 stalls in all. But due to the unstable situation in Bangladesh, it is not possible for the publishers of Bangladesh to open their stall in Tripura.

Book lovers consider the fair to be a golden opportunity for getting the best collection of their favorite writers which they rarely get to see in the Agartala market during the other times in the year. There are 300 to 350 new books being published from Tripura during this time of the year keeping in mind the annual book fair and the local publishing houses are also doing well along with the writers. Earlier the state was totally dependent on outsiders but now have the state’s own writers in different fields be it literature, science or guide books are helping the state become more self-sufficient.

It is to be mention that the first Agartala Book Fair held was held in 1981 and since then the scenario of publishing started to change very rapidly. Along with the common people, various schools, colleges, institutes, libraries and academic centres also collected books in bulk from the fair.

According one of the book lovers, “this type of fair not only creates a healthy atmosphere in North Eastern states, but the huge participation of people particularly the youth proves that Tripura is gradually moving towards normalcy”. But this year. The only exceptional is that people would view the smiling portrait of Anil Sarkar, who coined the concept of the book fair in the entrance of the fair.
