AGARTALA, February 17 (TIWN): Acting on a tip off the Assam Rifles Jawans detained an alleged arm smuggler from Naisingpara refugee camp along Tripura-Mizoram border on Monday night. The troopers later handed over the detained smuggler with the Kanchanpur Anandanagar Police Station. The incident occurred on Monday night along the Tripura-Mizoram border at Kanchanpur Naisingpara, when the concerned Assam Rifles troopers acting on a tip off detained one alleged arms peddler identified as Bualmanga ahead of the TTAADC election. Reportedly, the detained peddler was hiding in the Naisingpara refugee camp of Mizoram displaced people under Kanchanpur sub-division in North Tripura district. Kanchanpur Police Station OC Rajkumar Singh Jamatia while talking to TIWN said that the police is interrogating the detained alleged arms peddler, but as of now he was not found involved with any banned militant outfits. However but the incident of detaining arms peddler has triggered a big question mark for the upcoming TTAADC election, as a section of political parties here in Tripura has been demanding for Central forces in upcoming election.

It may be recalled here that the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on his visit to Tripura recently had a talk with the security troopers comprising of BSF Jawans in regard of erecting wire fencing along the bordering areas. During his visit, Rajnath Singh had discussed with the BSF officials the issue of fast completion of the border fencing with Bangladesh to stop smuggling, infiltration and the movement of militants.
It is also to be mentioned here that the bordering areas of Tripura have long been used as a corridor by smugglers and militants. But recently, arms and ammunition have been added to the list of goods being smuggled to and from Bangladesh. Sources in the police said that the Kanchanpur Sub-division continue to be one of the most vulnerable spots in the Indo-Bangla border for illegal arms smuggling.
