OTPC second unit to start functioning from 20 Feb

AGARTALA, Feb 17 (TIWN): The ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) second unit of the 726.6 MW thermal power plant would be put on commercial production on 20 February, highly placed sources of OTPC informed TIWN on Monday evening. The plant is powered by two turbines each capable of generating 326 MW power.

A team of technicians and engineers from the BHEL are engaged in pre-commissioning check-up of the plant along with engineers from the state. Pre-commissioning activities including tuning the Gas Turbine (GT) and Steam Turbine (ST) of the Unit-II is complete.
The high power transmission line from Palatanna to Azara in Guwahati has been completed and few areas  will be connected soon to get linked with the national power grid at Bongaigaon. Besides, alternative power evacuation system would be available even if national grid is not connected before starting of Palatana’s Unit II, the official sources told TIWN. 
As of now, there is a no problem of natural gas with the ONGC committed to supply 2.65 MMSCMD per day to the OTPC for running both units of Palatana  claimed the source.Regarding the functioning of Ist unit, the official said it is in good shape and generation of power is in full swing.    
 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the second unit of ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) powered Palatana power project in Udaipur and dedicated it to the nation saying development would be ushered in the Northeast on the basis of a four-point revolution.
OTPC signed a gas sale and purchase agreement with ONGC for supplying 2.65 million metric standard cubic meters gas per day. The agreement would be valid for 15 years against the assumed power plant’s life span of 25 years, with a provision of further extension by another 10 years.
