“Insurgency, violence hampers North East development”, says Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh; Rajnath appealed Mizoram CM to ensure security to Bru refugees

AGARTALA, February 14 (TIWN): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on his visit today here in Tripura termed insurgency as the major problem that the Northeastern region has been facing. He asked the militants to shun violence.”Development of the North Eastern region cannot be brought until the insurgency gets destroyed”, Rajnath said here today during the press conference at Agartala State Guest House. "Our government is committed to the development of the Northeast. But insurgency and militancy hamper its progress. Insurgency is the major problem that the Northeastern region has been facing," he said.The Home Minister Rajnath Singh today visited Kanchanpur, and interacted with the delegations of Bru refugees living in relief camps in Tripura.

 Talking to the reporters here at the state guest house during the press conference session Home Minister Rajnath Singh appealed to the Mizoram govt. to take back the refugees residing here in Tripura and to ensure security to them. "I assure you that the government will provide all possible help in repatriation of all Bru migrants," he told.
The Home Minister here today during the press conference at Agartala state guest house appealed to the insurgent groups operating in the Northeast, to turn away from violence and give the region a chance to progress."I have assured Tripura government of all cooperation from the center to deal with the issues of insurgency and other security related issues," said Rajnath. Rajnath added, “violence by the insurgent militants will not be tolerated at any cost”.
Singh said he wants a decent solution to the problem of repatriation of over 31,000 displaced Brus who have taken shelter in Tripura for over 17 years.
Adding to that Rajnath said, “I had a talk with the bru delegations here at Kanchanpur, and they seems to be ready to go back to their native place, Mizoram”.
There are over 31,000 Brus belonging to 5286 families in six evacuee camps in Kanchanpur sub-division of North Tripura district.
They had fled their ancestral homes in Mizoram and have been staying here since October 1997. The Home Ministry has already released funds amounting to Rs 242.35 crore up to 2014-15 for maintenance of Bru migrants living in relief camps.

Later talking to the reporters at the state guest house Chief Minister Manik Sarkar laying a stress on sit-in NLFT camps at the bordering areas here in Tripura said, “we have got as positive indication from the center in regard of North Eastern development”. CM Manik Sarkar also said that he has appealed to the center to deploy three Indian Reserve (IR) battalion here in Tripura soon.  
However, on his visit today here in Tripura Union Home Minister Rajnath accompanied by Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, visited Khangtalang, in North Tripura district and has taken a stock of the situation followed by an interaction with the concerned BSF Jawans. Later he moved for Kanchanpur to meet the delegations of the bru refugees residing at the area.
Rajnath held a meeting with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and later had an interaction with the media persons here at Agartala State guest house. Mizoram Chief Minister Lalthanhawla has cancelled his visit to Tripura today. Rajnath was scheduled to visit the Agartala Integrated Check Post (ICP), but later it was cancelled.
