Centre is committed to solve the problem of BRU refugees : Rajnath Singh

Agartala, Feb 14 (TIWN):Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the centre is committed to solve the long standing problem of BRU . Addressing a press conference here at state guest after meeting with Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar, Singh said, “ I appeal to Mizoram chief minister Lal Than hawla to extend full cooperation for repatriating the tribal refugeesâ€
“During my visit at Kanchanpur today leaders of Bru organization told me they are willing to go back to Mizoram, if they are provided security and end of discriminations” said the home minister.
“I assured them the Centre will take full care of their security, financial assistances for resettlement and others constitutional rights if they return back to their home land” he stated.
On insurgency, Mr. Singh said insurgency is the main hurdle for developing the North East region. “ I call all the insurgent groups to return back in the manifold for developing this region and urged them to give the centre 10 -15 years’ time for making the region a developed one ”
Rich natural resources combined with talent of youth gives the Northeast the potential to play a key role in the development journey, the home minister noted.
“India will not develop till the Northeast develops. We are committed to realising the potential of the Northeast and accelerating its progress," Singh said.
Earlier in the day the home minister visited a remote BOP of BSF at Khaltalang and at Kanchanpur held meeting with BRU refugees’ leader and took stock of the situation.
The home minister in the afternoon reached Agartala and had meeting with chief minister Manik Sarkar and other senior officials of the administration in the state guest. However, Mizoram chief minsiter did not attend the meeting as announced earlier. In the evening he left for Delhi.
