Transport Minister for separate railway division, Revenue Minister for alternate National Highway

Agartala, Feb 14 (TIWN): Tripura Transport minister Manik Dey said for a railway division separately in Tripura aiming to accelerate communication network in the South East Asian nations.

“The state can be an entryway to South East Asia. Advanced communication infrastructures in the state would prove boon in expanding communication networks with South East Asian nations,” Dey said during ongoing session of Tripura State Assembly on Friday.

Dey raised the issue after MLA Ratan Das moved a private member resolution in the House requesting the Ministry of Railways to introduce a separate Railway division in the state.
 The Transport minister added that the state could accelerate the communication network between the Far East and other north-eastern states with its Agartala- Akhaura international railway project, yet to come up.
As the North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) authorities are busy in conversion of Meter Gauge system to Broad Gauge from Lumding to Agartala, another project on extension of railway line from Agartala to Sabroom via Udaipur is in pipeline.
Agartala, the capital city of Tripura got its first connection with railway network of the country on October in 2008.
The North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) authorities started Broad Gauge conversion work from Lumding till Silchar in October, 2014. The entire conversion work is likely to be completed by March, 2015. However, railway sources claimed that lying of railway tracks and ancillary details are expected to be completed by 2017.
The NFR zone had five divisions including Alipurduar, Katihar, Tinmukhia, Rangia and Lumding.
On a separate note, Revenue Minister Badal Choudhury highlighted the necessity of a National Highway from Teliamura till Sabroom via Silachari as an alternative to build up communication network in the state.
