Agartala, February 12 (TIWN): 1030 families of Reang Refugees from Mizoram, containing 5294 persons were pushed back to their native place, from the year 2010 up to the month of June 2014. At present, 5286 families containing 31, 223 persons were still residing at Kanchanpur and Panisagar sub-division. Replying to the question submitted by MLA Lalit Kumar Debbarma and MLA Tunubala Malakar, about the returning of Reang Refugees to their native place, Minister-In-Charge of the respective Department, Badal Chowdhury had clarified the fact. However, during Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Tripura, a high level meeting will be held regarding the Reang Refugees with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Mizoram Chief Minister. Replying to the calling attention,

Minister further informed that due to the residing of the Reang Refugees for a long time, some disturbances are created in the life of the local people which has affected their socio-economic life. This had created a tensed situation for the State Government. Though the State Government had already informed the Central Government, about this but still no fruitful measures were taken on their behalf. Now, it is likely to be thinked that, the Union Home Minister’s visit will highlight some positive steps to solve the problem.

Clash between Migrants and Non-tribal in Kanchanpur and other areas where the refugees were residing became a common problem nowadays. Besides that the law and order situation is also facing hard troubles like the growing up of militant organization like BNA, BDEM, and NDLFM is becoming active. Other than that it had also disturbed the environmental balance also.

Though the State government had taken the matter in to the notice of Mizoram Government, but in that case, the Mizo Government, is playing step motherly attitude. They are not showing positive attitude to bring their citizens into their State. During the meeting at Delhi under the leadership of the Union Joint Secretary, Shambhu Singh, Tripura Government told Mizoram Government to provide some basic things to the Reang Refugees. But, no steps had been taken till now from their end. The Mizo Government was also instructed to return back their people within June 30th, 2015

It is to be mentioned here that, in the year 2009, due to the attack of Mizo miscreants in Kanchanpur- Mizoram border, 6800 families escaped in Tripura. State Government had provided them all the essential things need to lead the life. Again in the year, 2009, 564 families came to Tripura and become permanent resident of the State.
