AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, Nov 11 (TIWN): The CPI-M party’s student wing SFI on Thursday celebrated Jawaharlal Nehru University student election after the result was declared with a significant victory of Uttar Pradesh woman Aditi Mishra from Banaras, JNUSU President. Jawaharlal Nehru University is a public research university located in Delhi, India, known for leading faculties and research emphasis on social sciences and applied sciences.
Apart from studies and research, the campus has been the hotbed for student political matters in India, which in the last several years have been in the limelight with Modi Government and ABVP’s rising influence.
Tripura SFI kicked off a celebratory rally in the Agartala streets, where hundreds of youth participated in the rally. The participants demanded that in Tripura colleges elections should also be held soon, which are not being conducted for a long time.
Who is Aditi Mishra ?
Aditi Mishra hails from Benaras, Uttar Pradesh where she finished her schooling.
In the September 2017 protests at BHU, Com. Aditi as a UG student participated in the movement that defeated the undemocratic and patriarchal women’s hostel curfew timings.
In a statement the student wing social media page described her, “In 2018, the year Aditi enrolled in Pondicherry University, the campus witnessed a wave of saffronisation in the form of systematic installation of banners quoting Hindutva ideologues. Com Aditi participated in a gherao of the Vice Chancellor's Office. In 2019, the administration exorbitantly hiked the tuition fee across courses in the university, resulting in a student-led lockdown of the administrative block. Com Aditi actively participated in protests against the arbitrary fee hike as well as in solidarity with the ongoing anti-CAA protests. The anti-fee-hike protests intensified in 2020, and Com Aditi’s voice rang loudly against this disenfranchisement of marginalised students. She is currently pursuing her PhD research at CCPPT, SIS on Gendered Violence and the means in which women of Uttar Pradesh have been mounting a resistance to it since 2012.”
“Her politics is exemplary in its long standing commitment and struggle for gender justice. The fight to preserve and strengthen the culture of JNU as a place that stands for progressive values and justice for all is fortified in her leadership and candidature,” it said.
“Left Unity sweeps the field with 4-0,” declared SFI India.
