AGARTALA, Sep 6 (TIWN): A shocking case of land fraud has come to light in Tripura's North Tripura district, specifically in the Kadamtala block area of Fulbari. Shahin Ahmed Chowdhury, a resident of Fulbari Panchayat's 2nd ward, has alleged that his family's land was fraudulently transferred to another person using forged documents bearing his late mother's signature, despite her passing away in 2008.
According to Chowdhury, his mother, Ajina Bibi, owned 140 decimals (70 gonda) of land. However, in 2016, influential local and ruling party panchayat member Makram Ali allegedly grabbed the land and obtained documents in his name using forged signatures of Ajina Bibi.
The situation took a shocking turn when Makram Ali reportedly sold the land to his wife and another woman named Sahida Akhtar, an alleged Bangladeshi national. When Chowdhury and other rightful owners objected, they discovered the forgery.
Chowdhury has filed an FIR against Makram Ali at Churai Bari police station and lodged a complaint with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate's office. He is now seeking intervention from the district administration and the Chief Minister to get justice and reclaim his land.
The incident highlights the alleged involvement of land mafia and touts in the area who manipulate land records for monetary gains. The case also points to potential lapses in the Sub-Registry Office and the local administration, which have been criticized for their handling of land-related issues.
