AGARTALA, February 10 (TIWN): Veteran Communist Leader and State Palnning Board Vice Chairman cum former heavy weight Minister of the Left Front Govt. Late Anil sarkar’s body arrived here in Tripura at around 10:30 AM, with the state paying condolences to his death. However, the Tripura Legislative Assembly today adjourned its Day-3 session paying condolence to the death of Veteran leader Lt. Anil Sarkar.Anil Sarkar breathed his last at AIMS Hospital New Delhi on Monday evening at around 7:40pm. Anil Sarkar was in ventilation in AIMS suffering from Kidney problems. From Saturday both the kidneys were not functioning and later defying all the attempts of doctors Anil Sarkar breathed his last. However, today sarkar’s body was brought to his home town here in Tripura at around 10:30am with the state paying condolence to his death.From Agartala airport his body was brought to Tripura legislative Assembly, where the House today paying condolence to his death adjourned the day-3 assembly session.

The assembly session will kick start from Wednesday 11:00am again.

Later Sarkar’s body was taken to secretary office, where Chief Minister Manik Sarkar along with other ministers paid condolence to Sarkar’s death. The body was then taken to his living house at Agartala Dhaleshwar, then  to Rabindra Bhawan and later at CPI (M) party office at Agartala Melarmath.

Body of Veteran Communist Leader Lt. Anil Sarkar will be kept at the party office till Wednesday 12:00pm for the public to pay homage, and later mortal remains would be consigned to flames with full state honours at Battala crematorium here. However, the CPI (M) party office members will observe a 3 days mourning. the party flags would fly half mast during the period, a CPI (M) press statement informed. The party members will stage a party rally on Wednesday taking to body of Lt. Anil Sarkar to the cremation ground.

Politburo member and chief minister Manik Sarkar in his condolence message stated that Anil Sarkar will be remembered for his political achievements because of his pioneering role in the state’s Left movement. ICA minister Bhanu Lal Saha, SC corporation minister Ratan Bhowmik, CPI(M) state secretary Bijan Dhar, PCC president Birajit Sinha, opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman also condoled his death.

Veteran leader Anik Sarkar was one of the oldest members of CPI(M) and since 1972 he was the Member of Tripura Legislative Assembly. In 1978 he became the Minister in the state Cabinet.

From 2013 he has been the Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board. During his 30 years of Ministry Anil Sarkar hold the charges of Information & Cultural Affairs, Higher Education , School Education, SC Welfare Department etc. Apart from being a politician Anil Sarkar was also known as a poet. 

Anil Sarkar was born in 1939 in Bangladesh. In 1956 he became the member of undivided Communist Party and then CPI(M). At his death state lost a crucial leader of mass movement.
