Belonia, July 15 (TIWN): The Belonia town, particularly the Amla Para area near the Smriti Mandir, has been severely affected by flooding during the recent rains. The locals, mostly women, gathered to protest and bring attention to the issue. In response, the District Magistrate, Md. Sajid P, along with the Chairman of the Municipal Council, SDM, and local councilors, visited the flooded area to assess the situation.
The locals complained that the construction of the national highway has led to waterlogging in the area, with no proper drainage system in place. The District Magistrate assured the residents that a committee would be formed, comprising engineers from PWD, Water Resources, NHDCL, and the Municipal Council, to design a drainage system and allocate funds to resolve the issue.
The District Magistrate promised that the problem would be solved before the next monsoon, and additional pumps would be installed to facilitate water drainage. The administration's prompt response has brought some relief to the residents, who are hopeful that their plight will be addressed soon.
